To continue with the beaches and islands theme, we moved on to the Perhentian Islands.
Just off the coast of Kuala Besut, these two islands have everything you’ve been looking for. Resorts, coral reefs, beaches of all sizes, and more jungle trekking. Make sure to budget this above Tioman, as it is a bit more pricey.
Malaysia’s Perhentian Islands were definitely off the beaten path and pleasant. If you’re looking to escape the crowds of KL and even George Town, this place will be quite a delight with it’s rustic feel, beautiful beaches and slow pace.
The round trip boat ride is about 70 MYR plus a Marine Park Conservation fee of 30 MYR and roughly 40 minutes later you’ll be enjoying fun in the sun.
Diving, snorkeling, turtle viewing, sunsets in Coral Bay, beaches like Long Beach or Romantic Beach and jungle treks are waiting here!
Tips:
- Check for monsoon season. It’s generally between October – March (We went in April to Malaysia and it was perfect)
- Beach gear
- Jungle hiking gear
- Book there or call places ahead of time (we wanted to see our rooms before paying)
- If you’re interested in having a glass of wine while enjoying the beautiful sunsets, you may need to bring your own.
- Make sure to have extra cash, just in case.
